There are many different resources available to provide mental health care after a traumatic event. Those seeking care should consider the different options carefully to ensure they seek the care that best suits them and their needs. 

gundersen health system domestic abuse and sexual assault program

The Gundersen Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Program operates under the belief that everyone has the right to feel safe and to be safe. The Program provides free and confidential services for survivors of domestic abuse or sexual assault. Their program includes:

-ongoing support ("direct services to patients and employees including support and education)

-advocacy support for survivors including legal, medical, and human services advocacy

-crisis intervention

-safety planning

-referrals to community resources

-multicultural and multilingual availability

The Gundersen Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Program is a good place for survivors to learn about the resources available to them and to get the support they need after a traumatic incident. 

​

Mayo clinic safe path program

The Mayo Clinic Safe Path Program works to "provide services to victims of emotional, physical, sexual assault". Their services, which are always free, include: 

-a confidential, safe place to talk

-emotional support

-information and referrals

-individual counseling

-safety planning

-assistance in navigating legal, medical, and human services systems

-education about available resources

-assistance with applying to crime victims' compensation

Similar to Gundersen's program, Safe Path is a great place for survivors to find the immediate help and resources they need, and the assistance they need to find different resources in the area. 

​

Safe Path also has a 24-hour hotline so survivors can get the help they need, anytime of day. Their number is:

Office Hours for Safe Path are Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm, or by phone at any time of the day, any day of the week. It is located at the Center for Women's Health at Mayo Clinic in La Crosse:

uwl counseling and testing center

The Counseling and Testing Center is free for UWL and WTC students and offers confidential counseling. Students can either make an appointment by calling (608)-785-8073 or by stopping by their office at 2106 Centennial Hall. The counseling office is open 8:00A.M-4:30P.M Monday through Friday. 

​

The Counseling and Testing Center also has Urgent Care Hours for mental health crises, such as suicidal thoughts or a recent traumatic event. these yours are 2:00P.M-4:00P.M Monday through Friday. 

​

The Counseling and Testing Center also offers Group Counseling Sessions, including a Women's Healing Group for female-identifying individuals who have experienced sexual trauma. For information, please stop in 2106 Centennial Hall or call (608)-785-8073.
